Kari passes 10,000 ride milestone for Summer 2022

Sep 9, 2022News, PEI

Kari, an 100% PEI-owned and operated ride-sharing app is reaching a milestone during the Summer 2022 season.

With an expected need for additional transportation heading into the 2022 Prince Edward Island tourism season, Kari ramped up operations by recruiting drivers and hiring its first full-time staff to handle the increased demand. Just before the end of August, Kari completed its 10,000th ride this Summer (June-August 2022) and helped greet close to 25,000 passengers during this period.

Part of welcoming these riders includes initiating service to YYG (Charlottetown Airport) where riders can book rides on-demand or pre-book pickup or dropoff up to 7 days in advance using the Kari app to get to or from their destination anywhere in PEI. Len Currie, co-founder of Kari says “updates to the Kari app this year have allowed riders to not only pre-book a ride but tell the app what time they want to either leave by or arrive by, which has been fantastic for our airport users’ trip planning.” When you book a YYG pickup with Kari, your driver arrives in the orange “Pre-Arranged Pickup” spaces just outside the Charlottetown Airport’s arrivals door.

Growing from only offering service within the Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall areas earlier this year to adapting to the needs of visitors needing transportation Island-wide, Kari currently offers service across PEI as long as pickup or dropoff is in the Capital region. While the goal is to provide on-demand door-to-door service Island-wide, it was a positive step in that direction by adding this option. The next step to begin providing Island communities with service is for these areas to express interest in welcoming Kari. Matt MacLeod, co-founder of Kari says “a key to Kari’s success is the support from the communities we’re serving, whether that be support from users, drivers, local businesses or PEI municipalities, there has to be a commitment from many parties to make the service work.” Communities with interest should visit www.meetkari.com to learn how they can be considered for service.

At any one time, Kari has 5-10 drivers online in the Greater Charlottetown Area and adapts quickly to demand. The goal is to keep wait times under 12 minutes during weekday periods so riders have time to book a ride, get their shoes on and meet Kari at their door.

To celebrate Kari’s and PEI’s “return to a more-normal Summer” Kari is giving away 100 discounted rides to start September! To claim your discount, download the Kari app, sign up and enter promo code “SUMMER22”. You can use this discount on your next ride in the month of September 2022.
