Step 1

Insurance

When you’re driving ride-share, Kari provides access to our commercial policy, but it’s up to drivers to inform their personal insurer that they plan to drive ride-share.

If you’re looking for an insurer we recommend working with Cooke Insurance.

Step 2

License

In order to drive ride-share you must have a Class 4 Restricted license.

Contact Service New Brunswick to start the process to get your Class 4 Restricted driver’s license by contacting the Licensing Officer at the Motor Vehicle Branch (506) 453-2974 or via email at  Class4.VehicleforHire/voiturage@gnb.ca.

Step 3

Medical

As part of the Class 4 Restricted driver’s license process, you will need to contact your family doctor or visit a walk-in clinic to have a medical fitness report completed.

Step 4

Approved

Once you complete your medical and set up your appointment for a vision test with Service New Brunswick and you get approved, you will be issued your Class 4 Restricted license.

FAQ

What are the requirements to get a Class 4 Restricted driver’s license?

  • A valid Class 5 New Brunswick driver’s licence;
  • Must meet the medical and vision standards to hold a Class 4 driver’s licence;
  • Must not have had their driver’s licence revoked or driving privileges suspended within the last five years.

What if I have a license from outside New Brunswick?

If licensed outside of New Brunswick during the last five years, a driving record from your previous jurisdiction that is dated within last 30 days.

How recent does the medical fitness report need to be?

A medical fitness report must be completed within the last six months.

Where do I get my vision test done?

A Licensing Officer will advise you to visit a Service New Brunswick office to have a vision screening completed by a driver examiner to ensure vision standards are met.

Vehicle Requirements

Your vehicle must meet the requirements to drive with Kari in New Brunswick.

  • 4-door vehicle
  • 10 years or newer (2013 vehicle model year or newer)
  • Vehicle must have less than 200,000kms on the odometer
  • Good condition with no cosmetic damage
  • No commercial branding
  • No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
  • Snow tires or all-weather tires installed from November 1 until April 30 the following year

New Brunswick Vehicle Registration

The vehicle must have a valid motor vehicle registration and an up-to-date annual mechanical inspection.

Certificate of Automobile Insurance

Kari provides a commercial insurance policy while active on the Kari app. Drivers should have and maintain an SPF 1 Automobile Insurance Policy issued in the name of the vehicle owner. This is the standard vehicle insurance for personal use. Drivers should inquire with their insurer about any required endorsements.

Kari Sticker

The Kari sticker must be displayed when you are driving with Kari. Place it on the bottom right side of the rear windshield and/or the top right of the front windshield.

Driver Requirements

Kari drivers must 

  • Drivers must be a minimum of 25 years old
  • Drivers are required to have at least four years of driving experience in Canada
  • Drivers must hold a valid Class 4 restricted driver’s license
  • Pass driver screening including driving history and criminal record check
